Common Questions

Everything You Need to Know

How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?

Each insulation material has a different R Value but as a general rule you should have at least 12" of some type of insulation on your attic floor.

Do I need more ventilation in my attic?

Every attic is different. The rule of thumb is for every 300sqft of attic space, 1sqft of net free ventilation is required.

We install all types of venting from can vents to power vents and solar vents. This is one of the first things we look at when scoping out the attic spaces.

Why is my attic so darn hot in the summer?

Technically, your attic space is the same as the outdoors. It should be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There is such thing as too hot though. This can be addressed with ventilation changes.

Will I need to repaint my siding after exterior wall insulation?

Depends on the siding type. Any type of painted wood siding will definitely need some touch ups.

Cedar shakes are pulled off individually every 16" and clapboard is pulled off in long sections. We have very good techniques for working with these but condition of the wood plays a huge part.

Aluminum siding is the most difficult and has the highest rate of damage. It isn't easy to bend and when unlocking it from the other layers requires a little brute force and bending. You can count on small dings and dents as well as some repainting afterwards.

Vinyl siding is by far the easiest. Unless its old and brittle it should go off and on very easy
